MST Steel: Explores the Process and Benefits of Hot-Dip Galvanization

Hot-dip galvanization is a widely used process for coating iron and steel with a protective layer of zinc. According to Wikipedia’s article on “Hot-dip galvanization,” the process involves immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc, which alloys with the surface of the base metal. The resulting zinc coating forms zinc oxide and zinc carbonate, providing excellent corrosion resistance. Galvanized steel is a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel in applications requiring corrosion resistance. It can be identified by its characteristic crystallization patterning known as a “spangle.” However, caution must be exercised due to the release of toxic zinc fumes during welding.
