Michigan automotive supplier to open plant in Holland

Coastal Automotive, an automotive manufacturer from Southeast Michigan, is expanding production into Holland.

The Rochester Hills-based Coastal just closed on a 300,000 square-foot production space at 900 Brooks Ave. The Holland facility is expected to begin operations next month and plans to create 150 new jobs over the next three years.

“Expanding production into Holland was a natural fit for us,” said Clarence Martin, president of Coastal Automotive. “The Holland area has significant expertise in manufacturing and the auto industry, and the area has a very talented workforce.”

The Tier 1 global automotive company is a sister company to Coastal Container, also based in Holland.

The plan is to begin production before the end of the year, and begin hiring 50 workers in late summer.

“One of the reasons we chose to move to Holland area is to tap into the rich history of innovation,” said Martin, who founded the business in 2007. “Our goal is to transfer our process from unskilled to a skilled workforce.”

The company is looking for workers with CNC programming and mechanical trade skills. Starting pay will about $13 an hour, but employees will able to see their wages rise to $15 an hour quickly. Workers will also be trained on the job.
